Chile is a long, slim South American county that borders Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, and the South Pacific Ocean. According the the World Fact Book, Chile's total size is about equal to a little bit smaller than twice the size of Montana, or a grand total of 756,102 square kilometers.

Chile can be plotted at 30 00 S, 71 00 W.

The famous Andes run throughout the east of Chile, which despite their beauty, poses considerable risks to the people of Chile. More than three dozen volcanos along the Andes are active. The most recent eruption happened in 2009. However, Chile also boasts an incredibly rich "fertile central valley."

Easter Island is part of Chile.

  1. Thank you for the information on Chile. This is a country I've always wanted to explore, especially the mountainous region. I was unaware that there was still active volcanoes erupting as recently as 2009. I also didn't really think Chile was that large, but it is a very long country so that makes sense too.

Easter Island has always been intriguing to me as well because of their fallen civilizations. What a fun county to do research on!

  2. Great information about Chile, much of it I didn't know. Chile has always been very interesting to me, I like Cynthia, have always wanted to go to chile and backpack/explore the country, the Andes mountains have always interested me greatly being all about the mountains! The comment about the volcanoes was interesting, I never knew that they erupted in 2009. I knew Chile had few volcanos, not more than three dozen! Thank you for the new knowledge and even more interest in Chile.
